We’re taking a trip back to the Cincinnati Reds vs Atlanta Braves game from June 3rd, 2017, the day that almost 8 years ago made me a 1x HR catcher.
Back in 2017 I was 13 years old. During this time of my life, my brother, Jacob Benge, mother, father and uncles caught a few Reds games every year together. It’s what we did as a baseball-breathing family. We are fans of all sports, but MLB is our ‘sweet spot’.
My brother and I both being at the times we were, we would bring our sports cards to get signed by the players before the game and our baseball gloves for the outfield seats when it’s game time. That evening, we were some of the luckiest sports fans to be in attendance.
Above is the link to the video MLB posted of my 1st ever home run catch back in 2017 on my Youtube
I had the catch laid out as clear as day. I saw the ball hit straight off the bat and knew it was coming right where I was and I had a chance to make a play of my own in this game. My brother brought his glove too, but with where the ball was hit and the positioning of where we were located in our seats, it was a catch that I was in chance of making. I slid about 5 or 6 seats to my right when I started to make a break for the home run ball. There was NO competition nearby. I made a clean snag and immediately jumped up with my brother who made his way next to me to take a look at my family who was there watching it all unfold. A moment we’ll all never forget. There’s nothing like the feeling of being able to create a special moment like that and others get to celebrate it with you. Definitely one of my top personal-favorite moments at an MLB game. Now, it’s the road to catching a walk-off home run during an MLB game. Wish me luck on that journey, i’d need every bit of it.
